Tiger at Kabini

Indian Pitta

Happy to find this guy in Kabini

The Bold new Male

New Male

A very hadsome male we saw for the first time.... He is full of confidence too.

Leppy in the greens

A quick sighting wherein this guy came out of the bushes and crossed the road right in front of our vehicle.

Tiger at Kabini

A lot of waterholes in Kabini and Bandipur are running dry this season with very less water in the river too.. We all pray and hope for an early and healthy monsoon this season.

Male Leopard

Scarface

As we were rushing out of the park around the close time, this guy was waiting for us o the main road... Had not seen or photographed a Leopard for a while and I mentioned this to my friend, this guy showed up - AS if he heard me and was just waiting to say Hi!. It was simply awesome and we made some cool images in low but golden light which was fading away fast ....

Leopard

Shot in the fading light, very late in the evening.

Wow, what a day that was and all thanks to Afsar for his skills and experience of tracking a big cat.. No wonder, he is known as the "Billi Catcher" of our leopard capital. We had no luck in the 1st three safaris and this one began no different with no clues or calls and as we entered our designated safari route (cant give the exact location as it may help poachers) we saw a herd of deers very al ert and both Afsar and I tapped the vehicle for a stop. We then heard the roar of a tiger and knew it was around.. Afsar then asked Khan-bhai (our driver) to go back a little and then we saw a wild boar making funny noises.. These clues for enough for Afsar; and after going back a few more meters, we found this beauty sitting boldly by side of the road barely 15 meters away from the jeep.. Oh boy, what a sighting that was :) This sighting is the most precious Diwali gift ever.. Thank you so much Afsar and wishing you all a splendid Diwali :)

Tiger in the Water

This was one of the most memorable sighting in my life as I always dreamt of clicking a Tiger in water and this guy ful-filled that dream at Bur Balle check dam... This one safari we got a Spectacled Cobra, Sloth Bear, Wild Dogs, this big male Tiger and then a Leopard - It was a super treat. Tiger sighting at Kabini is always very special.

Wild Dogs

This pack of Six hunted this deer and polished off the kill in less than 20 minutes.

Elephants

This herd was tired and thirsty on a hot summer evening at Kabini. Despite that, the herd took all precautions before they crossed the road and guarded the baby all the time.

Leopard

Time to move on as there were wild dogs on the ground a few meters away from this tree.

Leopard

It was on the tree for a very short while as there were wild dogs nearby.. It watched them for a while then got dwon and went off on the other direction.

Whistling Duck

Serpent Eagle

On a perch concentrating for food..

Serpant Eagle

This eagle is the most common eagle in our jungles.. This was a clean perch and right next to the safari track.

Appayar Tower Male

Sometimes we do multiple safaris with no sighting and sometime you get a cat this close for 45 minutes with no other vehicles around you. You surely feel blessed when such a thing happens - You are also tensed not to mess it up (technically) as the light is low and you can only get to so much ISO for a sharp enough shutter in the fading light.

Show Stopper

Big Male Leopard of Kabini

Greater Flameback

Very lucky to have sighted this beauty at Kabini.

Profile shot of a Leppy

Plum-headed Parakeet

This male was busy feeding on this plant and gave us the opportunity and time to approach him slowly.

Paradise Fly-Catcher

Very fortunate to get this beauty up close and in a clean perch.. It was clicked handheld and due to the shade on the branch the shutter dropped to 1/80 - Did not have the time to change any settings then but held by breath to avoid any shake.. was also praying to get atleast one frame in focus :)

Territory Marking

Spent over an hour photographinc this lovely dominant male of Kabini. He was hiding in the grass for a while then got up and walked up to scent mark this tree and eventually climbed up a high tree to snooze off :)

Leopard

A beautiful female Leopard.

Common Hawk Cuckoo

Brain fever bird in a rain soaked evening with fading lights. It is always amazing to see this bird singing right in front of you..

Plum Head Parakeet

It spent hours on this silk cotton tree while we sat below and watched :)

White Bellied Woodpecker

The largest woodpecker of Southern India. These guys have an awesome call and simply mesmerizing to watch. There is amazing elegance in whatever they do :)

The Queen of Kabini giving us a look before crossing the road..
